PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

My clients Application, Development and Integration Business Unit specialises in the use of leading edge technologies, forward looking platforms and agile delivery processes to develop business solutions for large private and public sector organisations. Their capability teams provide the breadth of skills and experience required to undertake the end-to-end delivery of systems, services and solutions, helping them to be successful in delivering high-quality solutions to time and budget. The capabilities of my client's Application, Development and Integration Unit spans all of the roles required to undertake the end-to-end delivery of IT solutions to our clients, including Project Management, Analysis, Dev Ops, Software Engineers and Testers, with technical expertise across all of the commonly used platforms and open source technologies (including Java, Microsoft, Oracle, IBM) and leading edge (e.g. SaaS, cloud, OSS, NoSQL). Despite the particular role or technical bias, all of my clients team are first and foremost Software Professionals, putting Software Engineering and professionalism at the heart of delivery.

I am looking for enthusiastic Software Engineers who hold active security clearance to join my clients Open Source and Integration capability teams. The roles I am hiring into can be based from numerous UK base office locations and successful candidates will need to be mobile with regards to travel throughout the UK.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The role of the Software Engineer is primarily focused on developing and delivering solutions for both internal and external clients. This will include development of both client and server side software following recognised standards and patterns. With demonstrable experience in Agile software development, you should be a fully competent Designer / Developer with exposure to a range of additional technologies. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a designer, developer on delivery engagements for clients with responsibility for the specification, development, unit testing and implementation of complex multi-tier Applications 
  • Enhancement of existing applications due to changing customer needs and requirements 
  • Technical support for transition of the application into live service and support
  • Taking responsibility to ensure that projects deliver to time, cost and quality constraints 
  • Ensuring that functional and non-functional requirements are appropriately implemented within the solution 
  • Working collaboratively with Business Users in agile environment to ensure that solutions meet business needs 
  • Assisting with the estimation of timescales and resource requirements to successfully deliver a project 
  • Working closely with other team members to build and implement new applications, participating in design and providing mentoring, advice, undertaking peer reviews etc 
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development process, practices, tools and techniques 
  • Be a contributor to the creation of best practices through the identification of reusable project-level assets
  • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the latest development trends, standards, best practices and technologies


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 4 years' software development experience, with solid experience using Java and open source technologies and frameworks 
  • Strong appreciation of Object Oriented Analysis and Design techniques 
  • Demonstrable experience of developing enterprise level IT Solutions within complex integrated applications architectures 
  • Solid experience of working with a recognised Agile or Iterative development methodology (e.g. Scrum, XP, DSDM, RUP) 
  • Solid experience of applying good engineering technical practices (e.g. TDD, Continuous Integration, Pair Programming)
  • Good awareness of Dev Ops – including Configuration Management, Environment Management, Release Management
  • Detailed expertise and demonstrable experience in at least one technology stack, including a selection of the following: Spring (e.g. Core, MVC, Integration, Data), HTML5/JavaScript frameworks (e.g. Angular), Integration Technologies (Spring Integration, Web Services, XML, REST, JSON) 
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and modelling skills – able to communicate with internal teams and clients with technical and non-technical backgrounds 
  • Strong Client Facing skills and ability to understand their key drivers 
  • A good team player, but also able to work stand-alone 
  • A willingness to learn, grow and stretch into new technologies, roles and different industries. 


Desirable: 

  • Open Source Software Technologies: Angular, VertX, GWT, Twitter Bootstrap, Spring, Spring Data, NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB, Cassandra, Neo4J), Camel, ActiveMQ, Fuse, Spring Integration 
  • An active interest or experience in applying other JVM based languages (e.g. Groovy, Scala, Clojure) 
  • Knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) 
  • Knowledge of design patterns (e.g. GoF) and their areas of applicability 
  • Good working knowledge of SDLC and collaboration tools
  • Version Control – Subversion / GIT
  • Collaboration – Confluence / cWiki / IM
  • Issue/Task Management – JIRA / JIRA Agile / Bugzilla
  • Continuous Integration – Jenkins/Hudson / Maven / Graddle
  • Experience of working in high security environments 
  • Awareness of Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF, Zachmann)
