The CV
Select a layout and format that is easy to understand.
CVs should be written to reflect the type of position for which you
are applying. Always refer to the job specification and ensure you include
relevant parts of your career history, but never fabricate details.
Profile
Include a profile that summarises your personality and indicates your
preferred choice of future career.
Education & Qualifications
The details of your education should include your place of study, the
qualification gained and the dates. Also include recent training courses.
Career History
Keep it brief, no more than 2-3 pages. The last 8 years of your career
are most important. Your employment history should be in reverse chronological
order and should include the following:
- Dates you were employed, the company name and your job title.
- Examples of projects with which you have been involved, including
the value, the form of contract and any other important information.
- A brief summary of your responsibilities. Try to avoid mundane duties
and do not be repetitive.
Additional Information should include:
- Specific Computer and Language Skills.
- Achievements, this is a great way to sell yourself.
- A brief account of your interests and hobbies.
- The details of 2 work referees.
If you are unsure about the format or content of your CV ask your consultant
at Thatcher Associates. They will be pleased to offer you advice and help
wherever possible.
